Winnipeg is a sports lover's paradise. In 1999 Winnipeg will be taking its place on the world stage with the hosting of the Pan Am Games. The Games are expected to attract more than 6,500 athletes from 42 countries, making it the largest sporting event ever held in Canada, surpassing even the 1988 Calgary Winter Olympics. The Winnipeg Gold Eyes of the North League, offers fans top entertainment. Playing out of the Winnipeg Stadium, the team won the championship in their inaugural year (1994). Top-calibre amateur baseball is also provided through the Manitoba Junior Baseball and the Red-Boine Senior Leagues. There are many recreational and competitive leagues as well.

Home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football League, our team offers high entertainment action to thousands of fans at the Winnipeg Stadium each season. SKIING

The most popular individual outdoor winter sport in Winnipeg by far is cross-country skiing. Enthusiasts make tracks to the municipal golf courses, which do double duty when the snow comes. While the landscape around Winnipeg is not conducive to alpine skiing beginners can enjoy themselves at Springhill, just outside the city. In addition there are many good ski hills within a day's drive of Winnipeg.
